Guess Who?!

March 9, 2014.
Do you know what the significance of this date is?

This was the last time I came on here to write. I know....YIKES! =(

I was so proud of my newly designed blog and excited to be a part of the whole blogging community. What happened?!

Life, I guess....and then excuse after excuse after excuse.

The year I started this blog (2013-14 school year), I have to admit....I had a loving, yet VERY challenging class. I found it difficult to commit to blogging, therefore, I simply didn't.

So, why didn't I just start fresh over the summer? Why didn't I take another stab at the whole blogging thing the following school year? The school year of 2014-15, I had the BEST class...what was my excuse? Of course, with the beginning of every school year, things were SUPER hectic. Well, I just kept putting it off and I kept saying that I would start back up, but then I again....didn't.

Then 2015 happened.
In mid-February, my grandpa fell. From February to May, my days consisted of school and my evenings, nights, and weekends were all about my grandpa.
My grandpa passed away May 4th. I was a hot mess...and truth be told.... a year and a half later...there are times that I still am.
Whoever said it will get easier....lied. I love and miss my grandpa; I think about him everyday.

My Grandpa and I

A month later, on June 22, 2015, my grandma underwent surgery for a knee replacement! The surgery went well and she was recovering amazingly. Things were going a little too smoothly, I guess, because 3 weeks after she got her new knee....my grandma fell! She broke her new hardware and fractured her femur.
Oy....I know!

Well, fast forward through a 3 month stay in rehab, a blood clot, followed by a 2 month stay with my aunt, my grandma finally came home after Thanksgiving. Thankfully my class last school year was AMAZING and very supportive.

My Grandma and I

So now, here we are....another school year is in the works; 2016-17...this is year number 8 for me!! Again, I find myself saying that school is a bit hectic. Ok, who am I kidding....it is A LOT hectic!! (LoL)
I've come to the realization, however, that there won't be a "perfect" time to come back to my blog. If I keep waiting, it might never happen.

That brings me to this post today.

My home away from home....my classroom =)

First Grade has got me like ZzZzZzZ!!
Now, I'm not going to promise that I will be on here every other day or even weekly. But, what I WILL say, is that I am going to try my best to start blogging again.
PJ day

I know this post wasn't very informative or full of educational resources and ideas...gosh, this is supposed to be a TEACHING blog after all!

....but, hopefully you guys will understand where I'm coming from and you'll want to stay tuned in anyways.

Until next time friends. =)

Let Me Just Sum it Up!

Happy Sunday, everyone!

Yes.....I am still alive. {I've just been really, REALLY bad at updating!}

There has been so much going on in school that I have wanted to blog about {and believe me...I had every intention to blog about it ALL}; however, clearly, I did not.

Well, my friends, rather than trying to sum up the last month in a post, I made a little collage and added some pictures of some of the things my class and I have been up to. =)

From the 100th Day of School, to Groundhog's Day, Valentine's Day, Presidents' Day, and Read Across America Week celebrating the beloved Dr. Seuss, I can honestly say that my firsties have been SO busy in room 134!

I have been quite the busy gal too!! =)
I finally uploaded my freebie item on TPT. Let me tell you, I was so excited when my phone chimed and I saw that I received a positive comment {and some downloads too!} Click here to get my freebie! =)

I also uploaded another treasure in my TPT store just in time for the month of March and St. Patrick's day.
Visit my TPT store and check out "Little Leprechaun's Loot and Treasures!"

Well, it's time for me to get to bed; it will be time for me to wake up before I know it!
I need to make sure that I am bright and cheery tomorrow....it's FIELD DAY for First Grade!!
Wish us luck! =)

Until next time, my friends!
Have a great week!

Time to Catch up!

Hi there! =)

So I finally have my beautiful blog up and running....and I've done only 1 post!?
{And it wasn't even a REAL post; it was more of just an introduction.}

I've been so EXCITED to blog, but any extra time that I had last week, was dedicated to report cards. Need I say more?! Yea, I didn't think so.

Well, we've been super busy in Room 134; take a look and see what we've been up to!

For the past few weeks, my class and I have been working on our "How To" writing. They loved it and thought it was so much fun (especially since each writing was usually followed up with a craft or fun activity).

How to Make a S'more
After watching a video clip and writing about how to make a s'more, we each got to make our own and chow down!
How to Make a Pizza
My kiddos got to make a pizza of their choice after they wrote their how to. Unfortunately it was just a paper one. {Boo!} I forgot to take a picture of the finished product!

We were also working on "Making a 10 to Add." I found a really cute snowman craft by Amy Lemons from Step Into Second Grade. {Click HERE to get it!} I just adjusted it a little, incorporated the math lesson into it and VOILA! They turned out really cute!

"Matter" has also been a topic of discussion in our classroom. We've been discussing the various properties and most recently got to do a "Sinking and Floating" Investigation. We gathered around the carpet and I had my aspiring "scientists" predict whether various objects would sink or float. They recorded their predictions and then we carried out the investigation. It was so precious to hear them cheer when they confirmed their prediction. They got SUCH a thrill out of an easy and simple activity.

On top of all of the activities and lessons we've been doing in our class, last Thursday was Career Day at our school! I remember loving Career Day as a child in elementary school. I can honestly say that I had a blast at our Career Day this year. My favorite presenter (and I can almost guarantee it was my students' too) was the Canine Unit from our Police Department! They did a couple of demonstrations with the police dogs and answered questions from the kids. So cool!

Here are some of my cuties dressed up as the career of their choice! (I made the chef and nurse hats...haha)

Wow...this post took me FOREVER! {like F.O.R.E.V.E.R}. Will it get easier? Let's hope! =)

Until next time, my friends!
Have a great week!

Testing....Testing...1,2!

Welcome to Just Love First Grade! This is my fifth year teaching First Grade and I LOVE it!

After stumbling upon so many wonderful blogs out there, I was inspired to start one of my own. So here I am...attempting to write my very first post on my new blog, and I'm having a little bit of writer's block!{Already?!?!}

Join me on my journey as I figure out this whole new world of "blogging." I look forward to giving you a glimpse into my classroom and sharing any activities, ideas, and everything in between!

Wish me luck! =)
